2007 Plant Cytogenetics Training Workshop

The 3rd plant cytogenetics training workshop (PCTW: http://www.hort.wisc.edu/jjiang/workshop_photo.htm) will be held in the third week of October (Oct. 8-14, 2007) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The 2007 PCWT will be modified by adding a two-day module for FingerPrinted Contig (FPC) training.  An increasing number of plant physical maps have been developed by fingerprinting of bacterial artificial chromosomes.  We will teach how to use the recently developed FPC Web tools (Plant Physiol. 138: 116-126) to exploit the publicly available physical map resources.  PCTW is supported by the National Science Foundation.

Day 1-5 (Oct. 8-12)

FISH using mitotic and meiotic samples

Fiber-FISH

Day 6-7 (Oct. 13-14)

FingerPrinted Contig (FPC) building

FPC based physical mapping

Functions of FPC/FPC map for your research

Web FPC Tutorial

The workshop will hosts up to 10 people.  In principle we will allow only one person from each lab in a particular year.  If more than 10 people apply, then the first 10 people will be accepted.  Please contact Dr. Edward Woolsey (e.a.woolsey@mailbag.com) to reserve a slot.  Please specify whether you wish to attend Days 1-5 (Oct 8-12) or Days 1-7 (Oct 8- 14).
